I have read a few of the messages here and I am curious with a 27000 gallon pool how much salt would I need to throw in to make a difference. And I knew before I posted this it would probably get blasted, by read other post comments, but I wanna get the advice on my thread from the smart peeps here. So 80 lbs what kind of an impact would I get and would others be able to notice. And is it worth it to do so?

Assuming you're starting salt free, #80 of salt would add 355.4 ppm to your 27,000 gallons. The bleach calc program will figure this for you. If you don't have it, I suggest you download it.

You probably won't notice any difference in water feel at that low a level. I am a bit over 1100 ppm, and the water feels much better. Lot's of threads here about adding salt and the differences it makes.

Bowlin,
80 #s of salt will bring the your 27K pool to 355 ppm of salt. If you review other postings I think most people settle around 1000ppm which would be 225 llbs of salt. I would add 1/2-3/4 of the 225#s to see how it feels and then slowly approach the 1000ppm. It's easier to add than remove salt! Use Michael's BleachCalc for additional measurements.

SO how fast does it evaporate? Will I have to keep buying salt to maintain my 1000ppm or once it is there, does it stay there?

The salt will remain in the pool... outside of splashing, backwashing, etc. You probably will not have to add any salt again until you drain a significant portion of the pool. That is why you want to be careful not to go nutso adding salt initially.

Best way for initial dose? Brand how to put in pool etc?

Get the water softner salt as pure as you can find, I think 99.8% or something like that. It will be in pellet form. Lowe's & Home Depot both carry the 40# bags. I believe they are $3-5 per bag. Once you get it home go ahead and dump it in the pool and try to "mix it up" either by swimming with it or with your leaf skimmer. Also, you can direct your returns into the path to help dissipate, if possible. Like I said earlier, start with 1/2-3/4 of the total amount you are aiming to dissolve. After a day or so see how the water feels, what level it tests at, etc. You may have a salt reading in the pool from the fill water so you want to be sure you do not over-shoot your mark.

I used solar salt and poured it into my skimmer. Takes about 5-7 minutes per #40 bag.

I used Solar Salt as well, $4 for 40 lbs at Home Depot. I'd go with the pellets as the aren't as sharp as the crystals. I just poured it in the bottom of the pool. The neighborhood kids really got a kick out of it. According to the pool store, I'm around 2,000 ppm (I know, need to up grade my Ps233 to the new Ps234S :o ) and I notice a big difference. My skin isn't as "dry" feeling when I get out and I always swim under water with my eyes open and that's where the real difference is. Absolutely no discomfort or red eyes after spending all day in the pool.

I am a new salt water pool owner. I have the zodiac lm3. It says to keep the salt level at or near 4000 ppm. It sounds like I should be cautious on how much to add, but 1000 ppm is 25% of 4000 ppm. What should I do?

Add pepper only when the pH gets too low. Use only 100% fine ground pepper. Whole Peppercorn will tend to clog your filter.
