I have to leave town for a few days and since my CYA levels are less then 20 I decided to float some pucks to keep my chlorination up and raise my CYA levels at the same time while we are gone. The only pucks for sale at my local w-mart have small amounts of a copper compound in them. After reading on this site I am a litle concerned about adding copper to my pool. Is the compound in the pucks going to cause any problems with my pool?
Thanks for your help,
Dave

If your copper levels get too high, then yes, you'll have staining issues to deal with. However, I can't say how high is too high. I bought a container of those pucks a couple of summers ago before I realized they had copper in them, and used about 1/3 of the bucket before I realized they had copper in them. No problems in my pool so far....so if there is no other source of copper, I'd say the amount you'll use in a few days shouldn't be a problem.

Dave,
I guess if those are your only choice then buy the smallest amount possible and don't use them again. However, I'd try and find some without the copper. I posted somewhere a while back about pucks at Sam's Club. Same brand, one pail (40# I believe) were plain, the other pail said 'multi-acting' or something like that but the ingredients said nothing about copper but it must have contained it. Also $10 more. Just be aware of the tricks in labelling.
