I test 1~2x/week with PS234 (use test strips and OTO inbetween). Since I have the faulty tips... I've been making a "best can do intelligent guess" on the FC reading (I estimate that 2~3 drops with the faulty tip is maybe the equivalent single drop)... My latest readings...

FC=4.5PPM
CC=0.5PPM
PH=7.6
ALK=100
CYA=30
CH, I normally test 1x/month... not really all that critical with a Vynil liner. Correct?

In any case I have always had a CC reading of 0.33~0.5PPM. Regardles of what the FC is the test water always turns at least a slight bit pink when I put the #3 agent in. One small drop of #2 it immediatedly turns clear.

I see other folks posting 0 CC readings all the time here. I have not been able to get there. Do I need to shock more often?

IF one drop is clearing the slight pink color that means you have a CC of .5 or less. I wouldn't worry about it. If it is more than one drop then I would shock.
Just my 2 cents.
Are you testing after the pool has been used? It is often normal to show a bit of CC after use.

I was always getting the same .5 cc reading too until I got new reagents! So if they are from last year or clumpy and old it might be time to replace.
Good Luck

Kit's new this year (PS234). Not many swimmers in the pool until very recently (been a col summer). Still ~0.5 or less CC reading every time. Pool does get its share of leaves and pine needles... enough so I have to run the pool rover plus ~2x/week.

I went through a period of that as well. It's usually not a problem if EVERYTHING else is good. I suspect it was that some algae forms inside my drop-in steps that not enough chlorine can get to. Last year, I put a floater with some pucks INSIDE the steps shut down to it's lowest level. That helped for most of the season.

This year I'm trying to use 80# bags of water softener salt to hold the steps down and they aren't perfectly sealed, so some saline is leaching into the pool with the highest concentration under the steps. So far, no CC....
