i have been trying to get my pool going by using bleach to clear it up.since sunday i have put about 15 gallons of bleach in it.it was green and cloudy but it is blue and cloudy .the filter has been on for about 3 of the last for days.i left it off last night thinking maybe what ever was in there would sink, but it didnt.i ran a ph and chlorine test and the ph was at 7.2 and the ch was off the chart.the filter is a new sand filter.am i on the right track? thanks phil

You will need to post accurate test numbers for free chlorine and total chlorine, PH, ALK, CA, and CYA.

It sounds like you have killed most of the algae, however you will not know until you post your numbers and test 2-3 times a day and bring your free chlorine level up to shock level (according to the chart - which will require you to get your CYA level tested).

You will need to run your filter 24/7 and backwash frequently. If it still is having issues filtering out the dead algae you can try adding 1lb of DE into the skimmer - this will sit on top of your sand and help to filter out smaller particles, bu will be washed out when you backwash.

Keep in mind that the chlorine kills the algae, but the filter removes it from the water...the fact that you've gone from green to blue is a good sign. Keep your filter running, backwash as needed, and be patient--depending on your pump/filter/pool size, it may take a few days to get it all out.

If you're not going to vaccuum until tomorrow, don't wait--get the chlorine in now!
