Greetings--

Magnetek 230v 2hp two speed main pump.

Went out this AM and it was off. I turned the power off and heard a click from the thermal breaker. THe pump housing was almost too hot to touch.

I removed the pump housing to check for the impeller binding or the motor binding. It spun freeley.

I checked the voltage. I got 244 v across the two hot leads and 122 across the hot to gnd .

Motor repair shop checked the capacator-- it was good. THe guy there said that it didnt appear to be binding and spun freely. He said either
1) lost one leg of the 220 feed or
2) bad windings (although he didnt take the time to check and run it on his bench.

Suggestions ?? Is 244 vac too high ? I got that same reading at the main feed to the breaker pannel that services the pool.

Pump housings are often too hot to touch during normal operation. You could have a bad thermal breaker. Might have water flow issues causing the pump to lose prime.
