What should I use to get the iron out? Im trying to avoid the pool store.

Go to the pool store and buy a qt. of Metal-out.

You don't have to explain to clerk at a cash register why you're buying metal out. Not his business. If he asks, tell 'em you like the taste, especially after ribs!

You can go to some of the local home stores where they have a pool section too - the one we used was called Metal Myte - Mineral and Iron Control. We got ours at a few different places, Menards and Lowes. SKIP the one that is for pools and spas that also has "soy protein for softer water" - this will leave a gooey mess at your water line - we learned the hard way.

Just about every sequesterant on the market is based on the same group of chemicals (dreivatives of phosphonic acid) I know of one that is based on the chelating agent EDTA, MetalFree by NaturalChemisty. I have used that one along with several others and they all seem to work. Can't really tell you which one is best but I have had good luck with the MetalFree, Proteam's Metal Magic, and the Jack's Magic line (the Pink Stuff for iron). Just make sure to follow the directions for dosing, pH,and water balance instruction before you use one for it to work properly. Adjusting your pH to the proper levels recommend on the label first is a most important step!
