hi all..newbie...sand filter issues

I have a Hayward Pro Series Sand Filter with the multiport valve model SP0714T1.
i found that water pours out of the backwash/discharge port when the filter is set to recirculate mode. It comes out when the filter is set to closed mode to, and this occurs whether the pool is running or not. The water does NOT come out of the discharge port when the filter is set to filter mode, again regardless of whether the pool is running or not.

However, i just discovered that water also pours out of the air pressure gauge opening (when i remove the gauge). i assume this is not normal. Could this be the same issue as above or something else entirely?

if this is a separate/different issue, then i may replace the whole multiport valve instead of just the spider gasket.

Water can pour out of any opening near the pump or filter IF

1. The piping at that point is below water level, OR

2. There is filled piping that is ABOVE the filter, etc., OR

3. The filter is most full of water but ALSO full of pressurized air.

There may be other possibilities I haven't remembered; you'd have to post pics for me to see (instructions: http://pool9.net/postpix/)

It does sound like you may have a gasket problem, but again, without knowing more I can't be sure.
