I recently purchased a new 18 X 52 above ground pool, it came with a frog leap system. I am seeing much positive and much negative with this particular system. I am new to pool maintenance and am not really sure how to go about having safe and clean water, years ago when I was young our family had a pool but my father just poured bleach in it..... We live in Wisconsin if that makes a difference in maintenance, any tips on how to use this system effectively since I already have it ? I am not so much concerned about cost, just safe clean water hopefully with no green hair or brown stains on a new pool linner. Oh I should add that we have a cartridge style filter, not a sand filter.

Quick answer:

Your dad's plan was almost certainly better than the "Frog Leap" system. Virtually all such systems cost you more $$$'s and make a mess in the end. "Frog" systems are copper based, and may work for you if

You don't mind stains;
You don't mind green hair OR, if everyone in your family has dark hair;
You are mostly concerned with algae, and don't let non-family members (and non-family GERMS) in your pool very often.
