Bleach

I was using plain liquid clorax bleach in my pool and it was working great. Then the pump went out. My landlord is telling me the reason the pump went out is because I was using the liquid bleach. Does anyone know if this is true or not? Because, all of the forums that I have read say using this is the best chlorine for your pool. Thank you for your responses.
