Hello everyone!

I am a new pool owner. I've never had a pool before so I'm coming into this venture blind.
I became aware of this site when it was mentioned on a YouTube video. I won't say who or what that was until I understand if that's full couth or not.
I came here looking for the legendary BBB method info.
It's funny to me that I had heard of BBB before needing to know about it. Looking back to earlier this year when we purchased the pool; the guy at the store made sure to tell us the horror story of people 'doing chemicals on their own' and how people's hair turns green, their skin is irritated, and their eyes burn. He didn't mention the method by name or even as a method, he just planted the seed.

So, about the pool we got.
24ft round above ground vinyl liner
Sand filter-generic
Pump- generic
*Not sure what else is important

It was purchased in cold weather and just got installed about a month ago now. The installer was crazier than a tgree-dollar bill. He nearly cut his foot off in the process.
The installer did everything he could to get out of whatever he could. He showed up the night before agreed, unexpectedly, went bananas for an hour laying out the track and stepping in dog crap that wouldn't have been there at the agreed install time.
Day one (after excavation had been done by another crew)
-Assembles whole pool minus the skimmer and starts filling with shop vac in place to hold liner in place. Says he will be back to cut the liner hold for skimmer, implying that my job to install.
Day 3 finally returns and installs skimmer and return port which has a light built into it. We immediately notice the return port/light has the port pointing at 4 o'clock rather than 6. Also the skimmer gasket is squeezed out so much that the flapper can't flap unrestricted.
A visit to the pool store plus a weekend and a Monday and we are at day 7 when he finally returns, unexpectedly again and is trimming the gasket and has put a pipe wrench on the return port causing it's otherwise new condition to become marred, sharp, used condition. He actually argued with us for 20 minutes about the port not needing to face down and pointing out that the gasket is no issue and the flapper is pointless and most people take them off.

I now know the true reason and function for the flapper now. I also know it's not intended to be installed backwards and that for the most part it's not to flap out into the pool.

I've now wired and hard piped the pump and filter the entire distance except a short section of the return line that I'm still using the flexible hose to transition from 1-1/2 PVC to flex hose with hose clamps.
I've got unions, and ball valves to stop flow on both lines for maintenance.
I should mention the installer said nobody hard pipes their pool. But he also said it's a beautiful job

Enough about that I suppose. I did the best I could to implement the BBB method today from videos I found. Water tests over the next couple of days will be the proof I guess.
I will purchased and used several times now the Taylor K-2006 test kit, some 7 in one test strips, and some borate test strips.

I'm interested to read further when my access is changed

Thank you
