Hey all. Have a Hayward Pump wired to 220V.

Been running great for 10 years. Yesterday, all of a sudden it started to shut off after about 2 minutes of running and it smells hot and is hot to the touch. Replaced the start capacitor to ensure that was not the issue, still doing it.

Not the power
Not the wiring
Not the capacitor
Not the plumbing

Pretty sure it is the thermal protection circuit clicking in because it will reset in about 10 minutes than start again and run for 2 then shut down with the thermal protection.

Figure I have a bad pool pump after 10 years of operations.

Unless any of you have suggestions that I should try, I am going after a variable speed pool pump. Would rather not buy a new pool pump but I am at a loss as to how to proceed.

Suggestions? Do not think that a rebuild of the pump is worth it.......

I would suggest seeing how much a new pump would cost vs getting the one you have fixed as a starting point. I'm stuck in the same boat but mines the filter unit and not the pump kicking the bucket.

It is probably the bearings. If you have bearing pullers/press, you can replace them or you get a new motor to put on the wet end.
