Taylor k 2006

I used to test pool water with the Taylor 2005 but when I ran out of reagents I got the Taylor k 2006 to replace it. Most the test work the same except the chlorine which now uses the powder. Before I switched my chlorine read about 3 and since I got the new kit my chlorine is like 6 and I have been trying to bring it down without any luck so far. Is the tester bad or is my chlorine just obscenely high?

An FC of 6 is NOT "obscenely high". If your stabilizer level is anywhere between 30 and 90ppm it is within the normal range for maintenance, and, for shocking, it isn't even close to high enough.

Read the K-2006 directions. Fill the big tube to the 10ml line and add a scoop of the R-0870 powder. It should turn pink or red. Now add one drop of R-0871 (the brown bottle) and swirl. Add and count drops until the pink goes clear. If it still has a pink tinge (I set it on something paper white) add one more drop. Divide the number of drops by 2 and that's your FC in ppm.

You can buy refills for all the reagents. You don't need to buy a new kit each time, though the FAS-DPD powder test for chlorine is the reason to own a K-2006 vs a K-2005. However, that can be purchased separately as the standalone K-1515 to upgrade the K-2005.

If you are using a 10 ml water sample, don't forget that you multiply the number of R-0871 drops by 0.5 (or equivalently, divide the number of drops by 2). Are you doing that?

Also, wipe the dropper tip with a damp cloth just in case it has static electricity on it. The drops should not squirt out but should be well-formed hanging drops.
