Adding salt to inground pool

I have a 18x36 inground - 29,000 gallon pool. I've been hearing good things about adding a little salt to soften the water and make it a little easier on the eyes. I currently use the BBB system with success, but I would love to have the water feel a little softer (it came from the well). My question is:
How would I start this? It sounds easy from the threads I have read. Just add some salt tabs to the skimmer and check the levels (to 3000 I think). Is there more? I'm guessing there is and that's why I'm asking the experts.

Start with 500lbs of salt and that will give you a ppm of about 2000. If you think you want a bit more then add about 1/2 a bag at a time till you get it where you like it.

Be sure you get at least 99.6% pure water sofner salt pellets. Don't add rock salt or anything with "Iron Out". Lowes has 40# bags for around $4.00.

Can I just add them through the skimmer?

Yes, it takes 10-15 minutes to dissolve roughly 1/2 a bag. If you have a main drain, you can poor it into the pool and sweep it up around the drain.

just dump it into the pool and brush. it dissolves very fast. You can even get in the pool and kick it around to help dissolve it....let the pump run for about 24 hours and you are done.
