sand filter with D.E. added

Hi, I have a 18' round summer escapes pool (Intex style). I purchased a way over size sand filter and pump off Craigslist for cheap, it is #175 filter and a horse and half pump. My system runs at 11 P.S.I. clean the filter is rated for 50 P.S.I.. I have added D.E. to the filter till my P.S.I. raised by 1 P.S.I., as your forum threads suggest. Recently i added to much, 5 P.S.I. rise, but have left it running with to much. The pump runs quieter and the flow rate has decreased a bit and everything about the system seems to run better with the 5 P.S.I. rise. Are there other possible issues that I'm not seeing if I operate my system from 15 P.S.I. to 25 P.S.I. with extra D.E.
