Pool Troubles

I'm having a major problem with my pool water. Here's the back-story...
I've never had issues with our pool water. When we open the pool in the spring, the water has always been clear and I just need to balance it chemically. This year is a different story. We knew we had a leak in our liner last summer but couldn't locate it. So we got put on the waiting list for liner replacement in the spring. The pool guys told us to not bother closing our pool for the winter, because it would just be drained in the spring... So we didn't chemically treat it or cover the pool for the winter. Surprisingly, after the water was drained below the level of the nozzle opening, the leaking stopped. This spring, my husband found the leak in the wall of the pool right behind the steps and he patched it, so thankfully we don't need a new liner. But now we have a bigger problem. I'm trying to fix "pond water" and it's next to impossible. My husband was going to just drain it and refill, but I was worried about ruining the liner so we didn't do that. I've super-shocked it. I've done the "Green to Blue" treatments, and that's where I'm currently stuck. The algaecide and flock turned it from a pea-soup green/brown to a cloudy shade of jade. I still can't see the bottom. I'm trying to vacuum to waste, but I can't even see what I'm vacuuming. I haven't even tried to test the chemicals yet because the water is so dark & cloudy that I don't think the testing would be accurate.
