Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice.....please

An above ground pool (approx. 14000lts) came with a new house we bought last November. Have worked for the last week to get it open and went to to the pool store at the wekend for testing......

The results are:
FC = 0.8ppm
TC = 1.1ppm
CC = 0.3ppm
pH = 7.1
Hardness = 180ppm
alkalinity = 0ppm
Cy Acid = 10ppm
Copper = 0
Iron = 0

Sand filter is used and in-line puck clorinator is in place.
I know I have to add AlKA.....but beside can anyone offer any advice to a complete novice...thanks

Numbers look good. You need to shock to get rid of the CC (10 ppm FC) and keep an eye on your FC until you get about 30 ppm in the pool from the trichlor tabs. Use bleach to keep the chlorine level at about 2-3 ppm until the CYA builds up some more. Adding the baking soda to get the alk up should raise the pH slightly also but retest both pH and ALK about 48 hours after you add it and reajust the pH if necessary to between 7.2 and 7.6
