I owned a house with pool in TX back in 2002-2009. I gained a wealth of information from this site, and originally ordered my first test kit from this site. Things do look a little different now and I'm not exactly sure about the site name, but remember some names. I had complete success with my pool following the instructions and forum members experiences.
I have now retired and live in Jax FL, but did not want to deal with a pool again, just a hot tub. My daughter lives close and has a 15K Gal gunite pool with a one speed pump, cartridge filter, solar heating, and heat pump. She was paying way too much for pool service that wasn't even done very good. So, I'm trying to get familiar with things again so she doesn't get a green pool with all her kids using it constantly. And you know what a 3 year old will do in the water. I just ordered the Taylor K-2006 kit. We started off with 0 FC, 2ppm CC, 25 cya, and 8.2 ph. Bought 4 jugs of 10% at home depot, and told her to pour them all in the pool. She thought I was crazy. But, it appears that we got rid of the CC, and was left with 7ppm FC. The 7ppm was Pinch-a-Penny, and our kits showed 2ppm with no CC. We went to pool store because we wanted the 2.5 gal jugs that we can refill. They were pretty honest and didn't try to sell stuff we didn't need. They did sell us the sulfuric acid rather than the Muriatic acid, since our alk was OK. I wasn't sure about that, but they said it wouldn't affect the alk like muriatic acid would. Used 6 cups and brought ph down to 7.5. Interesting though that Pinch-a Penny wasn't concerned about CC and didn't even check for it. My daughter previously went to Leslie, and they sold my daughter some oxy stuff to wake up the CC. Not sure about that and told her not to use it, and not to go back to them.
So, now I'm trying to figure out how much chlorine to use, how often to shock, and don't want to bring the cya up too fast with the pucks. I forgot some things, and It's kind of fun dealing with the pool again, but glad I don't have one. 400 gals of hot tub is enough. Thanks
