Hi,

I have a 7 year old GL-235 solar controller that has worked very well for me except for recently. As we are trying to warm up our pool this Spring, I noticed the water was not heating. I went to the controller and it is acting strangely. When I first looked there were 3 lights on - Power, Heating, and Cooling. I tapped on it and all 3 lights went out. Tapped again and the cooling light came on (power light was not lit). Tapped again, some other combination of lights. All the while the valve actuator never moved.

I obviously thought something was loose, so I took the whole board out and inspected it, looked ok, re-installed making sure all connections were snug - same issue.

I was able to get the pool heating manually by flipping the switch on the actuator valve to On2 (was On1) and this opened up the pipes to the roof. So that is fine but now I want to try and fix this board before I pay $200 for a new one. I have had issues in the past with my Goldline saltwater chlorinator system, did the $2 Resistor change and re-solder and that fixed that - thanks to finding the information on boards like this.

So is there any simple fix or known issue on these boards that may cause this issue? I have ordered a mega kit of capacitors so that is going to be my first step - replacing the capacitors one at a time and seeing if that helps - first on the daughter board with the knob, switch, and LEDs, then if that doesn't fix it, moving on to the main board capacitors.

Just wondering if anyone has gone down this path and if so - any luck?

Thanks,

GatorMike
