View Full Version : Another season gone....odd filter behavior?

Yesterday I finished closing our pool. Depressing......I want summer back!

This past season was an unusual one in terms of my DE filter's lack of pressure rise over the season. Because my filter is oversized, it's not unusual to go all season on a single charge. But normally pressure will rise 5lbs or more during the season. This season, pressure only rose 1-2lbs!

I thought perhaps there might be problem with the filter (we've had it since the pool was installed in March 2004), but the water remained crystal clear all season and there was no evidence of DE getting inti the pool. Perhaps we just had an unusually "clean" year?

Any thoughts?

SHOTGUN APPROACH! :D

Did you or your neighbors remove or cut back trees or shrubbery?
How bad a pollen year was it in Virginia? Was it milder than usual?
How much usage did your pool get?
Did you keep chlorine levels higher this year than usual?
Did you do an unusually thorough job cleaning your filter at the end of last year?
Did you have your pool open a shorter time?
Did you have a colder summer there, too?

Just throwing out some ideas.

Hmmmm....let's see...

1. No change in trees or shrubbery. We do have a lot of trees around us.
2. Seems like pollen season was pretty normal.
3. It does seem like the pool was used a little less, though 99% of the time it's just the two of us anyway.
4. Now that you mention it, I did keep chlorine levels about 1-2ppm higher this season (about 7ppm this season compared to 5-6ppm in previous seasons; CYA is kept at 70-80ppm)
5. I always do a thorough breakdown and cleaning at closing every fall.
6. I had the pool opened about a week or two longer this season.
7. Yes, the summer was cooler than usual (boo!)

Any if this stand out? It will be interesting to see how it goes next season (are we there yet? ;) )

:)
