I need info from anyone that can shed some light on my new pool issue. Yesterday the our new fiberglass pool was lowered into the ground the contractor began filling it with water and told us to let it fill overnight which we did...This morning the pool was full, when the contractor came out he noticed what is called a GEL COAT flake under the bottom of the pool. The contractor begin to drain the pool and called the pool manufacturer stating he had never witnessed a new pool flake. After speaking with the manufacturer he said he would have the spot where the GEL COAT flaked off taken care of by next week.. Can anyone tell me about GEL COAT and what would make this happen. As my name states I'm A New Pool Guy just purchased the pool and know very little about pools. I have heard of the GEL COAT cracking but not Flaking off being brand new. Any and all help/advice will be welcomed..Thank you

Welcome, but I wish I could help. All I know about gel coats is they are similar to what's on fiberglass boats--and they shouldn't flake off when exposed to water!
