I`ve seen, can`t remember where, something about breaking up your pump/filter run times into blocks.
Like, if you normally run your system for 6 hr., you should break it into two 3hr. blocks.
Curious, was this an age related event, or did I really see this advise?
And what would be any advantage to doing this?

Separating the run time allows the skimmer a chance to catch floating debris before it sinks.

The are two situations where a split run time can help. First, if you get a lot of debris falling into the pool over a 24 hr period, then running the skimmers twice a day would reduce the amount of debris getting to the pool floor. The other time it has value is when you live in an area where the UV extinction is really high (e.g. AZ). But that can usually be combated by a higher CYA so even there it may not be totally necessary unless there is an aversion to higher CYA.

But if you have the capability to do a split run time, it certainly doesn't hurt and for the first reason, can help.

Thanks for the quick responses and after reading them a couple of times--Yup, that makes good sense.
I`m leaning towards a mourning and evening run of 3hrs, or so each.
Keep an eye on cleanliness and adjust.
Thanks again,
John
