Adding acid to new salt pool

We just had our pool renovated with a mini pebble finish. I was told that the acid demand would be greater for a few months. The test shows that it needs 2 pints of acid. Can I add it all at once and does the SCG have to be turned off or can I add it at the end of the pool where the return line is furthest away from the skimmer with the SCG operating?

What does your pH test read? Do NOT add acid unless pH is very high (over 7.8)!

The acid demand test should never be viewed as more important than the pH test.

Yes, new hard-sided pools CAN require a lot of acid, but unless the pH is constantly going up, you should won't need to add it. If your pH is 7.2, or 7.5 or even 7.7, you should NOT be adding acid to lower pH.

You MAY want to add some acid to bring the pH down, but the the Acid Demand test can be difficult to interpret. I would START by adding 1/2 CUP of acid, not a quart, and see after a couple of hours where you pH lands. Remember, with everything but Chlorine, it's always better to add less and then more as you need it, rather than overshooting your goal and having to add something else.
