Is it ok to put the solar cover on the pool for around a week and add the chemicals to keep it balanced? I hate having to take it off all the time just to add chemicals. Can I just add the bleach or whatever to the skimmer basket? We are going to be having a week of 70 degree weather here and the pool probably won't get much use.
Also, so far I have not had any problems, adding algecide regularly is not necessary is it? I just deal with the chlorine and the PH, everything else tests ok.

As long as you are not shocking the pool, it is OK to add bleach to the skimmer while the cover is on. But, if you shock it, take it off. And, yes, you are right that as long as you are diligent about maintaining good water chemistry, you don't need algaecide. I never use it except in the fall when I close the pool and then I add a double dose.

Good, I am glad to hear that. It is a major PITA otherwise, but I assumed as much.
