View Full Version : How do I deal with nasty surprise behind pool light?

I noticed sometimes I will get a little algae in the crevices around the pool light (poor circulation there?). Today I decided to pull the light out to see what's behind there.

Yuck! There was quite a bit of white-ish/off white slimy stuff and a little bit of green algae.

I brushed everything off as good as I could and am planning on bringing CL up to shock level this evening while leaving the light out/floating.

Does this sound like a good plan? Anything else I should do?

I guess in the future I need to periodically remove the light and clean it out?

Btw, I've only removed the light once before several years ago when I had to replace the bulb (I believe that was around 2007/2008).

Advice welcome!

Sustained shock level should do the trick!

Thanks Ben. :)

How long should I sustain shock level? Just until CL holds overnight like I did for spring opening?

What's your CYA level?

====================

Let me answer differently -- dose at 20 - 25 % of your CYA level, and hold it above 15% for 3 days.

What's your CYA level?

80

So I'm planning to bump CL up to 20 (currently CL is at 6-7).
