Hi there. I have read several posts multiple times hoping to get educated on owning a pool. I had a 18x33 Swim 'n Play above ground installed on Monday and Tuesday of last week. It took almost 3 days to fill, 15,000 gal. I tested the water and right off had 160ppm alkalinity, 7.6 pH. I read to add Muriatic acid, slowly, aerate, and retest. Over a 48 hr period, I added a gallon of the acid. My alkalinity is still at 140ppm, with a 7.5 pH. My question and concern is do I need to continue adding the acid until I have it down to the 120-100 range?
I appreciate any new information and so far have gotten so much great info from this site. Glad to be a new user.

Hi, Ginny, and welcome to the Pool Forum!

Sorry you didn't get a reply any sooner; we have been swamped with new members! Since your readings are now several days old, can you give us some new ones. Also, tell us what kind of kit you are using.

Also, tell us exactly what all you have added to the pool meaning ingredients and not just product names like 'shock' or 'chlorine.'

Then, somebody here can try and help you out.
