Hello. I am a new pool owner as well as new to the forum. We have a 5,000 gal fiber glass pool that has been a huge headache since we opened it 2 months ago. Before we bought our house 4 months ago, my husband and I did not have any pool experience. Now to the point.
We have been battling a metal problem. We discovered it was a metal problem by doing the vitamin c test. Two days ago I took a sample of water to our pool store for a test. The results follow:
Free and Total Chlorine: 0.3
pH: 7.3
Hardness 123
Alkalinity: 77
Cyanuric Acid: 56
Copper: 0.2
Iron 0.1
Phosphate: 300
I showed a picture of our green pool to the employees and they said we definitely have a metal problem and to treat the metal before balancing the pool. We bought a bottle of Natural Chemistry Metal Out and were told to add 1 pound of vitamin c, let it sit for 24 hours without running the filter, then brush and add 1/2 bottle of the Metal Out. It is two days into the metal treatment and the metals seem to be clumping from what I can tell in the skimmer but the pool is not clearing up in terms of color. It is a nasty clear green, more green than it was two days ago. We were told to let the Metal Out treat for a week before adding any other chemicals.
My question is, how will the water discoloration be treated? Should it clear up on it's own within a week? Will adding chlorine clear it up?
I appreciate any help and suggestions regarding this very frustrating issue.
