Are either of these methods much better than the other in preventing algae or other problems?

My CYA is around 100. Up until now I am just using bleach in the skimmer every 3-4 days to keep FC around 6-10ppm

But just curious if running a lower chlorine (3ppm or so) and adding polyquat every week would be just as good?

Also, even if I just run higher chlorine would it be good to supplement with polyquat as an extra preventative or would that just be a waste of money?

If you don't have an SWCG then you should be keeping your FC between 8 and 15 with a CYA of 100. You cannot run a lower FC level by relying on Polyquat, though it will help keep algae at bay.

Polyquat's good at keeping algae from starting, and, if you can't keep FC up it can help.
