We are looking to install a pool and in the next couple of years and plan to do the install ourselves.
Ideally we are looking at an inground pool, probably of some free form shape.

The site where we would put the pool is down a slop from the house...probably 6' of height over 50 feet, once at the bottom of the slope you hit flat ground...this is the low point on a 100+ acre property...the water table here is high and it is a wet area.

Ideally we would want the pool installed closer to level with the house...so I plan to bring up the level of the yard - yes I know that this can be an unbelievable undertaking...but I have a near limitless supply of bank run gravel, clean fill and a backhoe and a dozer or two...

So here are my questions.
1. Should we bring up the yard height to our desired grade, pack it, seed it, let the ground settle for a couple of years, then excavate and in stall the pool? Or install the pool frame and then backfill up to it?

2. What is the best pool material to use, in ground, in a wet area in a cold climate -upstate NY. - steel, polymer, fiberglass shell, gunnite?

3. I have seen a number of companies that offer inground kits online for what seems like reasonable prices...are these reputable ways to purchase a pool? Or doesit make more sense to go with a local company?

4. If I do go with a local company, when is the best time of year to buy a kit? End of the year closeouts or pre-season sales?

Thanks in advance for any answers that are provided to me!
