Hayward sand filter spewing water out top!!

We added water to our new pool June 13th.
The sand filter started working June 18th.
All was well until yesterday. I added 7.75
pounds of stabilizer, done liquid algaecide,
looked at the sand filter 15-20 minutes
later & water was spewing out the top where
the black valve is. We've back washed &
it hasn't helped. The bolts are tightened too. When
we start the pump, pressure rises to 18,
spewing starts & it drops to 12.

Sounds like it could be several things, but first and foremost is ... too much sand.

Hi, I am new to this site.

Not sure if this is your problem but I can tell you what happened to our filter.

Similar thing. Water spewing out. We opened the filter, dug out the sand and noticed cracks in the "spoky thing". Sorry, I have no clue what that part is called.

Carl, Not sure if there would be too much sand
since its straight from the manufacturer.

Lorelai, did you replace the part with cracks?
If so, did the spewing stop with that repair??
