Some questions for you:

--What kind and size is the pool and what is the volume?
--What kind of test kit do you have?
--Exactly what all have you added to the pool --- meaning ingredients and not just product names like 'shock.'
--What size pump do you have?
--What kind and size of filter do you have?
--What does your water look like?
--Do you have any idea what your CYA level was when the pool was closed last fall?

Post some current numbers if you have them and tell us what kit was used to get them. Then, someone here can take a look and try and help.

Lisa emailed me this:

- I have a vinyl lined pool - 19,000 gallons
- been using strips -just ordered kit
- bleach, phosphorus
- not sure what size pump, but it's worked fine in the past
- DE filter
- cloudy
- No, I don't know what the CYA level was last fall

With a 19k gal pool, a gallon of PLAIN 8% bleach will add about 4 ppm of chlorine to your pool.

With a DE filter, cloudy water usually either means low chlorine or early stages of algae.

Do this:

1. IF there is no 'green' begin adding 1 gallon of PLAIN 8% bleach each evening to your pool. (If there is ANY green, add 3 gallons!)
2. Tell us what the strips say your pH is.
3. IF your pump is on a timer, set it to run 24/7 until the water is clear.

Be sure to watch the videos for the kit, before using it: http://pool9.net/tk-guide/ Be especially careful with the CYA test. IGNORE the booklet and wheel that come with the kit.

Let us know how it goes.

I know I replied to Lisa yesterday. I must have forgotten to hit submit before I backed out of this thread. Darn.
