View Full Version : Filled small 10ftx30in Intex pool with well water-now it's yellow green

Hi- Bought this pool on sale, on a whim, summer fun for the kids. We filled it in a couple hours with the hose using our well water. It started to look cloudy and yellow while filling it so we added a quart of household bleach although it's still cloudy and greenish-yellow. We have heavy iron around here and I'm guessing we're in for a bit more work than we bargained for testing and buying chemicals. Yeah, I suppose I should have researched a bit more

Since the pool is so small, what's the best way to correct this problem without too much effort?

Thanks!

Do you have a way to fill with water that is not from your well? If so, the fastest way will be to dump and refill. It is really hard to deal with a metals-contaminated pool and these little Intex pools are even harder to clean up than a bigger pool.

Thanks for the quick reply! Unfortunately, we don't have another way to fill it. I'm not sure how we could get our household (softened) water attached to a hose outside? Or even if we could get little trucked in.

So, it sounds like this is a futile effort huh? Is it at least safe to swim in?

Thanks

If your chlorine is between 1 - 5 and your pH is between 7 & 8, it's safe for swimming.

You can connect a water hose to the COLD WATER side of your washing machine hookup, and fill the pool that way. If you reconnect your WM hose with this:
Gilmour Brass 2-Way Connector (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FJYSHW/scouscho-20/)
then you'll be able to easily refill your pool later.

You can get a WYE like that at Lowes, but try to get a better brand. They all will be Chinese made, but a US brand like Gilmour will try to enforce quality control, and you do NOT want a junk valve leaking water inside your house. Do NOT get a plastic valve; ONLY brass.

Hooking hose up to the WM connection is the perfect solution. Draining it now, refilling tomorrow! Thank you for the help Pool Forum Pro's!
