Hello everyone

Well, our pump decided to make its presence known. It is squealing - very loud, and very annoying. It is still able to move water quite well, but we can't allow it to run at this decibel level.

Dh has replaced the basket o-ring, thinking that it was taking on air and thus losing the prime. Didn't help.

So how about it - must we invest in a new pump? If so, what do you think of the Hayward Matrix 1 hp? We have a Kayak ag rectangular pool, approximately 10,000 gal.

Thanks for you help,
Terri

The easiest fix is to replace the entire pump. These pumps are not in the price range of I/G pool pumps. The less expensive, though very reasonable, choice is to replace the motor, shaft seal, and housing O ring. This way saves about $75 dollars. Be careful not to damage the impeller when removing it or you might as well replace the whole pump for the small difference in cost this would now represent. Some pool stores might not charge labor for this type of repair if you buy the parts from them. Just take the pump in and pick it up later.

If you do not run your A/G pool at least 2 hours a day during the winter, you MUST drain the pump and keep it dry. The pressure of the water above the pump will force a small amount of it past the seal and into the front bearings causing them to be damaged and the noise you are hearing.
