Have an new above ground pool. 18ft round. 1500gal pump. 6400 gallons.
How much chlorine do I start with? Add as I fill? It is city water. Direct sun about 4-5 hours.
What do I absolutely need to go buy for this thing?
Like I said any advice is welcomed.
thanks in advance

Hi, Stephen, and welcome to the Pool Forum!

Our Super Simple Startup Recipe would be ideal for you to use for your new pool. You can read about it here: http://pool9.net/ssr/

Do yourself a huge favor and go ahead and order a great test kit. The one we recommend is the Taylor K2006 or 2006C (better buy). Won't be available locally, but you can get it through this link: http://pool9.net/tk/

Read lots of posts here on the forum and also over on our sister website www.poolsolutions.com. Lots of good info there as well.

Come back if you have more specific questions and we'll try and help you out!

The dosing is in the recipe based on your volume. While it is filling, if you want to drizzle a little bleach in, that's fine. It shouldn't take long to fill up a 6400 gallon pool.

Pick up a cheap OTO/Phenol Red kit (yellow and red drops) at Walmart. You can use it to test your chlorine and pH now while you are using the recipe. Also, go ahead and order the K2006 as it will also test the other things you'll need but the OTO kit will still be used even then for quick daily checks.

Do you have the Dichlor and Borax yet?
