FC: 3.6, Combined: 0? (Sample did not change color when I added that reagent)
pH: 7.4
Alk: 70
Cal: 150

According to the chart I have a saturation index of .5.

Should I raise my pH and Alk? I need stabilizer too. Hmm.

A CC reading of 0 is what you want. By the way, use the 10mL sample instead of the 25mL one as it will make your reagents last longer. Multiply the drop count by 0.5 instead of 0.2.

Your pH and alk are ok where they are.

What kind of pool do you have?

(Ignore the book that comes with the kit. The kit is fabulous but the book ---- not so much. Just use instructions and info from the forum instead.)

The pool came with the house. I have no idea what brand. Its 15x30 and may possibly be a Namco brand. According to neighbors the homeowner bought it when the company was having a going-out-of-business sale.

Doesn't matter what brand it is. I was trying to find out if it was an inground gunite pool as you would need to raise the calcium level if that were the case. Since it is an AG pool, that isn't necessary.

One number you didn't list was CYA. Is this a freshly filled pool? Do you have a CYA reading?

(Please update your signature to show that you have a K2006. You can do so by clicking on the link in my signature below.)

I didn't do a CYA test. Is it really that important? The pool is not freshly filled. It was here when we purchased the house.

Yes, knowing your CYA is one of the 3 most important numbers along with chlorine and pH. Go ahead and run that test and report your number. We need to know that to know what your chlorine levels need to be. More about the chlorine/CYA connection here: http://pool9.net/cl-cya/

If CYA is stabilizer, then the number is 0. I know that without running a test. I don't have any and won't be able to get any until Wed. Working 12 hour shifts kind of puts a damper on getting anything done on work days.

There may be some in there from last year. Probably a good idea to go ahead and run the test.

New numbers are in!

Ch: 5.8
pH: 7.2
ALK: 70
CYA: 60

Going to go buy some stabilizer.

You don't need more stabilizer. A reading of 60ppm is plenty.

Cool :D I guess all my number are good. Would explain why my pool is nice and clear. You all have been very helpful :)

Just make sure that you keep your chlorine in range per the Chlorine/CYA chart I linked for you back in post #6. If you dip too low, you'll risk an algae bloom. (We call that chart our "Best Guess Chlorine Chart." If you lose that link, you can always find it in either my or PoolDoc's signatures.)

One other comment -- use the 10mL water sample instead of the 25ml one. It will make your chlorine testing reagents last longer. You will multiply the number of drops by 0.5 instead of by 0.2.

Glad we could help. If you need us again, you know where to find us! ;)

Used wrong calculation for chlorine. My number is actually 14.5! I will hold off on adding chlorine for a day or so.
