Skimmer tray keeps coming out.

Our skimmer tray keeps coming out of its recess. Has anyone had this problem, and if so how can I fix it? I could put something heavy in the tray, but that would block the water flow to a certain degree. Our pool store said that it is the right skimmer tray for our pool. It just keeps popping up and than it sits in the skimmer with a big gap allowing big stuff to pass by and go to the secondary filter tray. Thanks.

When my pool was new, the first time the pump stopped my basket popped up. I called the store and they had me put a rock in there. It doesn't take much room and it weighs the basket down enough to keep it from popping up.

I'm glad to see someone else has this problem.

Just be careful ... I have tried to be lazy and put the basket back without removing the rock and it fell out and lodged itself into the hose connector ... it wasn't a lot of fun trying to pry the rock out.

I see a lot of skimmer baskets with rocks in them. It's a good idea and works just fine.

Just don't let the rocks fall out and get stuck.:)

So a rock it will be. I just called my lawyer to start the paperwork for a Skimmer Basket Weight patent. Just kidding, but I think I might. Thanks for the quick replies.

Mine Too!!! Since day 1, it's an epidemic!
Always use a rock Bigger than the pipe opening, you DON'T want to suck one into the pump.
Also, try to find a rock that will NOT block the opening if it happens to dump out or the basket happens to break due to age, I just went around the yard picking up candidate rocks and ran each through tests to see which would cause the least amount of issues in a worst case scenario.
Good luck with the patent - got 100,000 dollars to get one in every country otherwise you're just advertising your idea to the big companies who will steal it before you get a sketch on paper!

Just started up my new pool and I keep finding rocks (big ones) in the filter basket of the pump. Its almost like someone had been putting them in the skimmer lines :mad: Took two out yesterday and 15 minutes later I noticed a big chunk of concrete in the basket. God knows what I else is gonna come out of those lines.
