I have just opened my pool for the season but the gas heater won't ignite. I have a Raypak model P-R266A-EN-C. Other equipment include a Zodiac FloPro pump (model FHPM) and an Aqua Trol above ground chlorine generation system . All of this for a 56,750 litre on-ground pool (deep end in the ground). Both are operating normally.

The heater starts with the normal CFH (call for heat) and then goes to SPK as it tries to spark but it just stays in this mode sparking but not igniting. The gas is turned on both at the external valve and the internal switch. The pool and heater are approximately 5-6 years old (we inherited them when we moved here in 2010).

Any suggestions before I try to find a pro for a service call? Thanks.

Have you worked your way through the trouble shooting guide on page 45 of the manual?

No, I only addressed page 43, which didn't state my problem. Page 45 says for Qualified technicians ONLY and seemed highly technical, so I didn't touch this. Much of what is listed on page 45 I wouldn't know how to do. I guess it's time to call in a technician(?)

I understand. We have no way to judge the skills new forum users possess -- some of them have far greater skills than the guys I see in the local pool wholesale supply. So, mostly we just point out options, and let people decide for themselves.
