Anybody tried using anything other than sand for under the liner? I'm talking about something that you might have fabbed up yourself, carpet, roll of foam from Home Depot, innerds from your kids 5000 stuffed animals, bags of hair clippings that you get from the barber????;)

All of the above and then some.:)

The best would be indoor-outdoor carpeting and 1" or 1 1/2" sheets of styrafoam. Carpet pad worked OK also. I use these options when the pool is installed on concrete. On dirt I much prefer sand.

Best of luck, Dennis

My wife had the great idea to use 2'x2' interlocking closed cell foam flooring squares. They often sell them in packs of 10, with different bright colors for kids play area flooring. the ones we found were all black, I think they were 1" thick. Got the at Sams club. They are closed cell, so they don't absorb water, and stiff enough that the weight of the water doesn't collapse them. Had them under our sofpool for three years, and other than the dirt they were about like new when we sold it. Wasn't the cheapest route to go, I think it was a little under $200 for our 18' round pool. Really felt great under foot though, and very durable.

Edit: this picture shows what I'm talking about, probably exaggerated the thickness above
