I am having my pool re-plastered. Its a 1964 pool and has not be re-plastered since new. Consequently we had rusty rebar showing through. My contractor wanted an additional $800 to remove the rebar and fill the holes. I said I could do it (cannot afford the extra $800) which my contractor agreed to. He advised me to use Waterplug mixed with regular mortar to fill the larger holes and a layer of pure Waterplug to finish.

Is this the right product to use? From what have read it is great for filling holes as it expands into cracks, but after the rebar has been removed the holes in the shotcrete are V shaped holes and if this concrete expands will it push out of the holes when being applied?

Your input would be appreciated.

Thorite, made by the same company, would have been my choice, but I'm not sure it's available any more. Waterplug is definitely a high quality product and rather expensive, so I'm guessing he would choose something cheaper if it didn't work well.

It does set VERY fast so read the instructions carefully, and practice a bit before you try to apply it to the work area.
