Hello - So last year I bought a 16' by 48" deep intex ultra pool. It was great but was kind of chilly. Took down in winter and set up and now I want to add heater. Went on craigslist and found a guy filling in his in ground pool and selling:

Hayward H150 heater - 2 years old

Pentair Superflo 1.5 HP pump

Polaris PB4-60 Booster pump - couple years old.

Electrical panel

Huge Sand filter - 2 feet diameter by 3 feet high.

Polaris pool robot vacuum

I got it all for $600. Seemed like a good deal.

I want to use the heater and one of the pumps but my question is what can I do for a filter? Is there a canister type filter I can hook to the 1.5 HP pump? I don't think I need this huge sand filter.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

1. The booster and robot are overkill in my estimation. With the filter and pump you've got, you can manually vac the pool in 10 minutes.

2. The SuperFlo is way too much pump for most filters. You can NOT hook that pump to a tiny filter: it will either damage it OR force the dirt through the filter.

3. Best choice? Use the pump and filter, but get a motor rated timer. That pump will use WAY more electricity than an Intex pump.
