Is it really as easy as unscrewing the bad one and screwing the new one (with Teflon tape) in? I assume I do this with the pump off. I'm not going to blow up the filter am I?

Further, do I need to know anything to size it when I go to the store for a replacement?

Mine is located in line between the multiport valve and the pipe leading into the filter. The needle rests on the peg no matter whether the pump is on or off.

I believe so. All a pressure gauge is doing is letting the water pressure push up against it and give you a read out.

Yes, turn everything off. Unscrew the old one. Take it to the store if you want to get one just like it.

Add teflon tape to prevent a water leak and screw the new one in, fire up the pump and your back in business.

When installing the new pressure gauge make sure you do not put on to much teflon tape or screw the pressure gauge in so tight that it dead ends this could crack the plastic the gauge is being screwed into.

Yes, the gauge was that easy to replace. Turned everything off, unscrewed the old one, screwed in the new one with some Teflon tape wrapped around the end.

It's reading - but the needle continually vibrates between, say 12-15 psi. Is it supposed to do that or is the need supposed to point to a specific number? This is just my second season with the pool. I never saw the old gauge work.
