i have a Hayward in group pump that was humming loudly this year but not kicking on. I took the back off and cleaned up all the contacts nicely assuming that was the issue.

Now whenever i flip the breaker on it immediately trips the GFCI i have on the same line (its not on a dedicated 220 line there is also a GFCI for my Koi Pond on the same line).

I assumed the issue was due to the some water getting on a wire so i let it sit for a day to let it dry. Today i had the same issue and took the back off again and let it air out/blow dried in. I am still having the same issue. none of the wires or contacts appear to be wet so i cannot figure out what would be tripping the GFCI

any ideas??

Could be a bad capacitor.
