I love the ease of placing in fall and removing in spring..But when I open pool in spring, the water is BLACK and filled w/ algae..Do u have same problem? Is there a way to prevent? I live in PA....

ps...I close in Sept. and open late April

Do you bring your chlorine level up high before closing? Another option is to not cover the pool. I never do anymore. I do close kinda late --- really not until we start having below freezing nighttime temps. That way, I can keep adding chlorine if I need to although with the cooler weather, the chlorine use drops considerably. I stay after getting the leaves out of it in the fall and then its fine til spring. I will have some dirt on the bottom of the pool in the spring but the water is clear. One of the other mods who isn't around here much anymore (Poconos) also lives in NE PA. He never covered his pool either.

Bringing chlor level up doesn't help either...No cover: is not an option for me..Waaaaaaaaaaay to much to clean in spring. (leaves, branches,animals,etc)..I'd rather deal with just algae...
My wife talked to a guy that says he just closes later than sooner...His pool looked great the other day...Same cover...

So, I'll take ur advice and close later....thx
