After reading many articles on here, I finally ordered my Taylor K-2006C testing kit. I got the larger reagents because I am hoping to do lots of testing. I used the Amazon link that Ben has posted, so hopefully that helped the forum a little bit.

This was my very first test, so I hope I did it right:

FC 2.5ppm
CC 0.5ppm
pH 7.9
Found that I can decrease the pH with 2 drops of reagent
TA 280 ppm
Calcium Hardness: 770 ppm - 800 ppm
CYA: 120 ish ppm
(the black dot went away before the level reached the 100 on my tester)

I read some of the information in the book that comes with the test kit, and plan to read more of it as I have time.

My main question, first, is 7.9 too high of a pH? Previous to this I had been using the test strips.

Thank you for this great forum, and thank you for any clarification you can give me on my results.

Your pH + TA + CAL are too high.

Lower your pH to just under 7.0, and keep it there with repeated additions of acid till your TA drops under 120 ppm. This page will explain more:

Your CYA is also high. Read the Best Guess page, linked in my signature, for an explanation of the issue and your options.

Welcome!

Thank you Ben, I appreciate you looking over my test results. I will have some new test results as my pool pump shorted out and kept me from running my pool pump for close to 1.5 weeks.

Will take a look when you post those results . . .
