First I want to say thank you for the excellent advice I have read on these boards. This site is so great! :)

I always hear about different types/colors of algae but the algae in my pool always seems to be grey, like dust on the floor of the pool. Only once did I see dark colored algae (had the pool 4 years). Is this grey stuff even algae?

Should I vacuum this up (time consuming) or brush it (quick) to mix it up & let the filter get it?

Thanks for the help.

Chlorine is the only long-term cure for algae. You can brush and vacuum to infinity, the algae will return unless you kill it with chlorine.

That said, I've always been lazy and let my filter do it's job rather than me laboring over the vacuum :)

I'd prefer the filter, too, but if you'll keep your Cl level up, you won't need to fight that battle after you get this one cleared up......
