Had a large amount of D E in my pool. I noticed that the level had gotten low in the pool ( I was working nights), not sure if pump lost suction. Could this cause D E to get into the pool or should I look elsewhere?

Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated,
James

It would be a good idea to remove and inspect your filter grids. A broken grid can result in DE flushing into the return.

Sometimes when the pool runs low on water, the pump will draw air into the system where it accumulates in the filter tank. Since the system never gets going (low water level) the air never gets a chance to purge from the tank. When the pump shuts off for the day, that trapped air allows the remaining water in the filter tank to drain out. This water, along with the DE flow backward through the suction line and then out through the skimmer and or the main drain, and eventually settles out in the pool.

I have seen this happen, but is not a guaranty that it will happen every time, in every situation.
