Multiport valve drains from waste pipe when rotating handle

I am new to this forum and AGP ownership. I just installed the sand filter and was getting ready to run it. I noticed that a lot of water drains from the waste port on the multiport valve every time I rotate the handle....is this normal?

yes it is. but don't rotate the handle when the pump is running. it can suck the gasket out.
