I have a pool, it has a lot of dead algae on the bottom which I haven't vacuumed and its eating chlorine but I can't figure out why.

Here is a reading after I had shocked it two days earlier:

Chlorine Level: 0
Total Available Chlorine: 0
Calcium Hardness: 220
CYA: 30
TA: 90
PH: 7.7
Copper: 0
Iron: 0
Phosphates: 300

The Leslie's people are suggesting that maybe I have the dimensions of the pool wrong, I don't think I do, but I could buy a measuring tape. Any ideas on why the chlorine level zeros so quicky?

DD,

We're not here as a training service for new pool guys. Sorry.

There are MANY reasons why you could be losing chlorine. You should do what you know needs doing -- vacuum the pool, in this case, because organic matter can consume chlorine -- before you start looking for obscure causes.

If you want help, you are going to have either:
-- 1. Do your own homework, which I'll outline below
OR
-- 2. Pay me.

So, if you want help, do these things:

1. Read all the stickies here, and all the pages linked in my blue signature block. Read through the guide pages on PoolSolutions.com (http://www.poolsolutions.com)

2. Do the basic things you know to do -- vacuum! -- before asking questions.

3. Get a K2006C (like below!) and USE it. Also, buy (2 - 3) K1000 OTO kits, and start learning to use OTO as a quick test that covers the entire range of chlorine values.

4. Order a CPO manual, and read it. It's not completely accurate, but it's better than it was, and will acquaint you with many things you need to know: http://nspfcart.eproacademy.org/store/comersus_listItems.asp?idCategory=2

Once you've studied it, we can point you to info that's omitted, or wrong.

I'll copy this thread to the Pool Biz (http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/forumdisplay.php?180-Pool-Biz-Only) section of the forum, and leave it open, there. But I'm closing it, here.
