I have a sta-rite "system 2" model 150 cartridge filter. The locking ring is a major pain to get off and on - it takes extreme effort to start it unscrewing when taking off, and to tighten it the last quarter turn. Is there a tool for this? I've had no luck finding one on the internet. By the way the ring is about 18.5" diameter. I tried some silicone spray lubricant but it didn't help.

I don't know if there's one marketed specifically for that, but if you post a picture of what you've got I might know of something that will work.

You could do it, with the strap wrench below, if you use the triglides (at least 3) to extend the strap. I don't know which size webbing you need -- I'm guessing 1", but I included a link to 3/4" as well.

You'll need to be VERY careful in using this tool. If you adjust the handle so that it's sticking straight out from the filter, you'll put so much pressure on the ring that you'll crack it! Adjust the handle so that it's fairly close to the ring, before the strap tightens. Using this would be best as a 2-man job, with one person holding down the release and the other manipulating the strap wrench.

Of course, if you can find a made-for-it tool, that would be best.

Thanks! I would not have thought of that, looks like it should work.
