Waste Setting on Pump

I have just replace my vinyl. Finished filling it with water. Just noticed that the pump was set to waste. Does that mean I was letting water out of the pool the whole time I was re-filling the pool?

I assume this is an inground pool with buried pipes so you can't see the discharge. If it was set on waste, then unfortunately, you were losing water from the pool.
