Hello,

I just purchased a home with a pool. I was doing some routine maintenance and I am unable to removed the plastic filter lid on the pump. I believe that the previous owner may have over-tighten the lid. I have tried 2 people to turn the lid and even striking the edges with a rubber mallet.

Anyone ever have this problem before and have suggestions?

Thanks

One trick that sometimes works is to loosen the lid while the pump is running.

It's an unfortunately common problem. If you post make and model, there may be some pump-specific solutions.

Mine is also a bear! Had it off once and couldn't get it back on with water gushing and no one home to help! Sat there for a bit (almost in tears) holding it on and it finally twisted on. As for getting it off, it seemed to do better when it was "unprimed" but I don't know how to do that on a system that's already primed (this was at start up time this year). Mine has two notches to "grab" and twist (useless since its so tight) but I have seen others with giant handles on top...wonder if I can just switch out the lids?

Again, there are individual work-arounds, but they depend on the particular pump and lid you have. Post that info, and maybe we can find solutions.

Thanks everyone! I will check the pump model tonight once I get home from work.

I am having this same problem right now. I need to empty the basket inside and I can't get the lid off. I have a black tool that hooks onto the lid for easy removal, but it's not turning. The make and model of my equipment is Hayward DE6020. Please help!

Finally got the pump lid off! My basket was full as I suspected. We had to use the lid tool and then hit it with a hammer until it starting to slowly loosen up. What a hassle! Now my pool vac won't move....

It seems counter-intuitive, but if you turn the lid as to tighten it then loosen, sometimes it works.

True, that. . .
